Punjab Govt removes ‘tainted’ head of anti-encroachment task force
Chandigarh, July 27
The state government today removed the “tainted” head of the anti-encroachment task force after his name cropped up in a panchayat land scam.
In a series of news stories, The Tribune had reported that anti-encroachment task force head Jagwinderjit Singh Sandhu had allegedly facilitated land grab.
In an order issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Rural Development and Panchayats) Seema Jain Sandhu, Jagwinderjit Singh has been removed from the post and his immediate junior has been given the charge.
The order of Jagwinderjit Singh’s removal came after Chief Secretary VK Janjua took cognisance of The Tribune’s news stories and sought a report from the Additional Chief Secretary.
On July 19, The Tribune carried a news story ‘Anti-encroachment task force chief’s name figures in panchayat land scam’. According to the report, a government inquiry exposed that Jagwinderjit Singh had “gifted” a portion of panchayat land to a private developer in Amritsar.
