The SAD today asked Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi why they did not visit Punjab or directed Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to cut short his European holiday and address the grievances of Sangrur Dalit family.

Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said Rahul was fond of visiting Dalit families during the elections to secure their votes, but when a gross atrocity was committed against them in Punjab, neither he nor his mother had thought of visiting them.

He said the FIR in the case was registered five days after the incident on November 7. He said even two days after Jagmale’s death, Social Welfare Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot gave a statement that the family’s plea for enhanced compensation would be decided by the CM after his return from his European vacation. “Is this governance?” he asked, adding the Congress government was insensitive to the grievances of not only the Dalit community, but every section of society.

The four-member committee, led by former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, constituted by the SAD, on Monday visited Jagmale’s family. “We will prepare our report. Our party has called a core committee meeting on November 25 and our findings would be discussed during the meeting,” he said.
