Gohana trader gets ransom call for Rs 2 cr; cops arrest 1 after encounter
After an encounter at Narwana in Jind district on Friday night, the Sonepat police succeeded in arresting an accused who, along with his associates, had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore from a businessman in Gohana.
The miscreants came in a car at Vishwakarma Chowk of Narwana city to collect money from the businessman. The arrested accused has been identified as Yughwinder of Sai Colony in Cheeka of Kaithal district.
As per the police, the businessman, in his complaint to the Gohana City police, had stated that he had received a Whatsapp call on his mobile phone on November 23, in which the callers demanded Rs 2 crore from him. The callers threatened to kill him and his family, if he failed to comply. Following the complaint, the police registered a case and began a probe in the matter.
Meanwhile, the miscreants called him to Vishwakarma Chowk to give them the money.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Narender Kadyan has constituted six teams to solve the case and nab the accused involved in the crime.
Following a tip-off, Inspector Virender Singh, Incharge, Crime Unit, Gohana, along with his team, also reached the Vishwakarma Chowk.
As the miscreants saw the police vehicle, they began firing on the police team. In retaliation, the police team also opened fire at them. The miscreants left their car near the power corporation office and two miscreants ran away in a forest area taking cover of the dark.
The police team launched a search operation to nab the accused. The police arrested Yughwinder and recovered the miscreants’ car, one country-made pistol, a foreign-made pistol, three live cartridges, a sword and mobile phones from the car.
