GNDU wins inter-university women's football tournament
GNA University organised the Association of Indian Universities’ (AIU) North Zone Inter-University Football Tournament (Women) in its campus.
The event was a platform to grab the prestigious chance of being among the top four teams of the North Zone to play further at national level. The event had participation of over 24 teams with around 450 women footballers along with their coaches from Delhi University, University of Jammu, Punjabi University, SSJ University, Guru Nanak Dev University, Panjab University, Himachal Pradesh University and Kurukshetra University who showcased their talent and sportsmanship.
On the first day, more than 10 teams competed with each other in knockout rounds. Day 2 of the tournament again had knockout matches between the participating teams. The closing ceremony of the tournament was graced by Jasleen Seehra and Meena K Pawar, in-charge, Traffic Education Cell, Jalandhar, a former Commonwealth Games player and a world champion in weightlifting. She witnessed two league matches. In her address, she motivated all the players and asked the winning teams to gear up for the upcoming challenges. Dr Parampreet, Head, Faculty of Physical Education and Sports along with his team members Dr Suresh, Navdeep and Vijay worked relentlessly for the smooth conduct of the tournament.
Team Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, bagged the winning trophy by securing the first position and gold medal. The team from Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, bagged the second position and silver medal. Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar, bagged the third position and bronze medal and Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, got the fourth position.
