GNDU initiates work on setting up garden
Amritsar, July 12
In line with the state government’s mega plantation drive and the district administration announcement to plant over 10 lakh trees across the district this season, GNDU has announced to create Guru Nanak Gardens on three sites inside the university campus.
The university, which has already established a botanical park, has initiated the establishment of Guru Nanak Gardens during this monsoon season. Collaborating with the Punjab Government’s Forestry Department, the Landscape Department has begun planting these gardens and additional plants across the campus by sowing a sapling.
Land Scape Officer Gurwinder Singh said this year, a total of 6,000 will be planted in vacant areas within the university along with three Guru Nanak Gardens under District Forest Officer Malkit Singh’s guidance from the Forest Department. “This effort aims to enhance environmental aesthetics within and around campus while reducing pollution levels in adjacent areas. Each Guru Nanak garden will feature 550 plants encompassing 12 varieties, including mango, awla, pipal, bohar, tahli, neem, dharek, bahera and siris.
Gurwinder Singh said activities related to tree plantation have been consistently carried out every monsoon season within Guru Nanak Dev University under VC Prof Sandhu’s directions.
