Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has extended the admission deadline for courses offered through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online modes to November 15, following guidelines from the University Grants Commission - Distance Education Bureau (UGC-DEB).

The university has established the Directorate of ODL and Online Studies, which has received the necessary approvals from UGC-DEB. Currently, about 1,400 learners are enrolled in various ODL and online programmes, including students from Canada, the UK, Australia, the UAE and the USA.

Prof Palwinder Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs, highlighted that these courses are particularly beneficial for working professionals and the Punjabi diaspora living abroad. “These online programmes are designed to support not only the Punjabi community in regions like the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Africa and Europe but also anyone seeking flexible higher education options globally,” he stated.

GNDU offers 12 courses under ODL mode, including BA, BBA, BLib, BCA, BCom, MBA, MCA, MA (Punjabi), MA (English), MCom, a Diploma in Computer Applications (DCA) and a Diploma in Communication Skills.

In line with recent policies from GNDU and UGC, candidates can now enrol in two academic programs simultaneously — one in full-time physical mode and another in ODL or online mode.

Dr Subheet Kumar Jain, director of ODL and Online Courses, shared the university has set up a dedicated studio on campus to facilitate online teaching, video lecture recordings and examinations in an AI-proctored environment. “GNDU also provides academic support through its Learning Management System (LMS), which includes self-learning materials, eBooks, videos, quizzes and an online discussion platform,” he explained. Dr Jain confirmed the admission deadline for ODL and online courses has been extended as directed by UGC-DEB, with further details available on the university’s website.
