Giving people platform to voice concerns embodies true spirit of democracy: Min
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh stressed that giving people a platform to voice their concerns embodied the true spirit of democracy.
“The Punjab Government has initiated the ‘Aap Di Sarkar Aap De Dwar’ campaign, bringing governance directly to every village and ward to resolve issues on the spot,” he said, adding that the initiative had received widespread appreciation.
As part of this campaign, Dr Balbir, accompanied by Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Barsat, visited Tripuri, Guru Nanak Nagar, Jujhar Nagar, and Ward 29 in Patiala to address residents’ grievances today. He listened to the concerns of residents and directed officials to take immediate action to resolve them. He assured people that repair work on non-functional streetlights would be completed by December 7. Regarding the issue of debris on streets after sewage cleaning, he instructed officials to ensure its removal within 48 hours.
He also urged people to avoid constructing ramps or other structures outside their gates that hindered movement. These obstructions not only create accessibility issues but also increase the risk of accidents.
He said transforming villages and wards required the active cooperation of residents and urged them to support the government and administration in accelerating developmental work.
For the third consecutive day, Dr Balbir toured various localities and wards to directly address public concerns. He highlighted that providing basic amenities was the fundamental duty of every government. However, he noted that due to the negligence of previous administrations, even 75 years after independence, issues like access to clean drinking water, proper sewage systems, and sanitation remain significant challenges.
