A 16-year-old girl died after falling into a 300-metre gorge while she was on way to school in Bargran panchayat of the Bharmour subdivision.

The victim, identified as Varsha Devi, was a Class XII student at Government Senior Secondary School, Mandha. The incident occurred on Friday near Sanju Nala at Banni village. According to reports, Varsha lost her balance after tripping and fell into the gorge. She died on the spot.

Hearing the commotion and cries from other children, villagers rushed the spot and informed the victim’s family.

The girl’s family, along with police and villagers, retrieved the body after a strenuous effort. The body was taken to a Bharmour hospital, where post mortem was conducted before it was handed over to the family.

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav said the girl lost her balance after stumbling, leading to the fatal fall.
