Amritsar, February 26

Six-year-old Khushi lost her life when her throat was slit by Chinese ‘dor’ when she was going with her parents on a bike on Batala road on Sunday evening. The family was returning to their house in Verka after visiting some relatives when the accident occurred.

A visibly shaken Mani Singh, her father and a resident of Deen Dayal Abadi, said Khushi was sitting on the front of the bike when the ‘dor’ of a loose kite got entangled in her neck and left a deep cut. Though the family and some passersby rushed the girl to a nearby private hospital, she could not be saved.

Mani said, “It was a holiday and we had plans to give Khushi a treat before returning home. I regret taking her on the ride now.” He said that his child’s death should act as a wake-up call for the authorities concerned, which should implement the ban orders strictly.

On January 13, a youth on a bike received a grievous cut on his throat near Ghanupur Kale village. Doctors had to apply 12 stitches to close the wound. On February 11, 2023, a 17-year-old girl was injured when a ‘dor’ left a deep gash on her throat. She was riding pillion on a two-wheeler being driven by her father while returning from her tuition class.
