Gillco Valley cut turns traffic choke point, irks commuters

Commuters on the Chandigarh-Kharar road complained that the cut near Gillco Valley entrance opposite the filling station has become a perennial choke point with unruly traffic from all four sides causing daily traffic jams here.

Local residents said morning and evening hours on week days witness daily chaos here with two- wheelers and four-wheelers trying to bulldoze their way on all four sides.

“Despite knowing about the daily chaos, traffic police fail to deploy their personnel here, not even during the morning and evening hours,” said a TDI City resident Manju Saini.

Residents said Good Samaritans or road users who are fed up with the situation volunteer to streamline the movement of vehicles here. But it is momentary, minutes later, it’s back to normal.

“As there is a cut near the filling station, people entering and coming out of Gillco Valley rush onto the main highway beneath the flyover, clashing with high speed at right angle,” said Birender Kanwar, a Gillco Valley resident.

The situation is similar at Nijjher Chowk in Kharar.

Traffic police officials said the traffic lights would soon be made functional to do away with the inconvenience caused to the road users here.
