Gurugram civic body intensifies steps to control air pollution

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has increased the mechanised road sweeping and water sprinkling activities, besides increasing the presence of officials to check air pollution in Gurugram city after the announcement of the implementation of Stage 2 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the National Capital Region this week.

Surveillance teams constituted

  • Teams formed to check open burning and illegal construction and demolition (C&D) waste dumping. The teams will inspect C&D sites and check road dust and impose fines on defaulters
  • MC deploys three anti-smog guns, 36 water sprinklers, 16 mechanised road sweeping machines and two for sucking garbage on roadsides
  • Burning garbage, transporting construction material, garbage or debris without covering, illegal garbage and debris dumping, using coal or wood in tandoor prohibited completely

MCG Commissioner Narhari Singh Banger has stated that the MC is spraying treated water on roads and trees to prevent dust particles suspending in the air and is promoting mechanised cleaning of roads. The people carrying out air pollution-causing activities were being constantly monitored by a dedicated teams of officials, he said.

Banger said that he had directed the zonal officers of the civic body to strictly implement Stage-2 of the GRAP guidelines issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

The MCG is rigorously implementing the GRAP-2 guidelines and taking stern action against defaulters. It has constituted surveillance teams to check open burning and illegal construction and demolition (C&D) waste dumping. The teams will inspect C&D sites and check road dust under their respective jurisdiction and impose fines on defaulters, he said.

The corporation teams have challaned 11 violators for violating GRAP Stage-2 guidelines. These include four challans for C&D dumping, six for transporting debris without cover and one challan for burning garbage in the open. As part of pollution control measures, the corporation has also deployed three anti-smog guns at various locations, 36 water sprinklers, 16 mechanised road sweeping machines and two ‘jatayu’ machines for sucking garbage on roadsides.

Burning garbage, transporting construction material, garbage or debris without covering, illegal garbage and debris dumping, using coal or wood in tandoor is completely prohibited. The MC officials said it was necessary to follow rules in the construction works.
