Shimla, July 8

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today urged the people of Dehra to vote for his wife Kamlesh Thakur, who is the Congress candidate, and get the Chief Minister free along with a ruling party MLA.

Sukhu wrapped up the campaign for the Dehra Assembly bypoll in Kangra by addressing public meetings at Haripur, Khabli and Dhaliara villages. “The people of Dehra have an opportunity to get the Chief Minister free along with a ruling party MLA,” he added.

He said that the state level-Independence Day function on August 15 would be held at Dehra. “I assure you that the grievances of the Pong Dam oustees will be resolved during the state-level function,” he added. He said that BJP candidate Hoshiyar Singh, when he was an Independent MLA, did not hold even one demonstration or dharna in support of the people’s demands but sat outside the Vidhan Sabha for the acceptance of his resignation by the Speaker. “He not only sat on a dharna to demand that the Speaker accepts his resignation from the Assembly but also approached court to get unseated, which is very strange,” he added.

Sukhu said that people should not get misled by the false promises made by Hoshiyar Singh in the past six years. “The honest and loyal leaders of the BJP in Dehra will support the Congress in the larger interest of the people of the constituency,” he claimed.

He said, “The strength of the Congress in the Vidhan Sabha increased from 34 to 38 MLAs after winning four of the six Assembly byelections. On July 10, when the voting takes place for the three byelections, the Congress’ strength will rise to 41. People have rejected the BJP’s attempts to destabilise a democratically-elected government.”

He alleged that Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur’s dream of becoming the Chief Minister of the state again would remain unfulfilled as people had rejected the ‘Operation Lotus’ launched by the BJP to topple the Congress government.
