With concerted efforts under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative, a steady increase in the sex ratio at birth (SRB) has been witnessed in the state, said Aruna Chaudhary, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, today.

Chaudhary said the gender ratio had improved by 19 points i.e. from 901 girls per 1,000 boys in 2018-19 to 920 girls in 2019-20, as per the statistics given by the Health Management Information System of the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

The improvement had been noticed from 2013-14 onwards. The SRB increased to 901/1,000 during the 2018-19 fiscal from 890/1,000 in 2013-14, she said. — TNS
