Gaurav Gogoi appointed Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha

The Congress has made significant leadership appointments in the Lok Sabha, with Gaurav Gogoi being named the party’s deputy leader in the House.
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Birla, informing him about the appointment of the deputy leader, chief whip and two whips for the Congress in the Lok Sabha, AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal said on X.
In addition to Jorhat (Assam) MP Gogoi’s appointment, Mavelikara (Kerala) MP Kodikunnil Suresh has been named the chief whip while Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu) MP Manickam Tagore and Kishanganj (Bihar) MP Mohammad Jawed have been made whips.
The appointments are learnt to be aimed at bolstering the party’s leadership and effectiveness in the Lower House of Parliament. A party leader said the changes had come as the Congress and its allies in the INDIA bloc “prepared to advocate for public interests with renewed vigour”.
“Under the guidance of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, the newly appointed leaders are expected to play pivotal role in steering the party’s legislative agenda and upholding democratic values in Parliament,” he said.
