Gang of tyre thieves busted in Panipat, 2 held
With the arrest of two persons, the Panipat police claimed to have busted an inter-district gang of vehicle tyre thieves. Satish Vats, DSP, Headquarters, said the arrested accused had been identified as Sachin of Butana village in Sonepat and Anil of Bala village in Karnal district.
He said several incidents of tyre thefts had been reported in the district recently. SP Lokender Singh had directed all three CIA teams to crack these cases at the earliest and nab the accused involved in it.
During the investigation the CIA-3 team incharge, Inspector Vijay Kumar, received a tip-off about the gang members and nabbed two of them from Sector 18 near Deshbandhu Government college on Tuesday evening. Both the accused were about to commit another crime, he said.
During the investigation, the accused revealed that they committed crime in the night time in their I-20 car and stole tyres of a car in Kurukshetra around four months ago, DSP Vats added.
He further said the accused revealed their involvement in nine incidents of stealing tyres and one incident of car theft. Six of these thefts were carried out in Panipat, two in Kurukshetra, one each in Rohtak and Hisar.
The accused revealed that they parked the car on bricks after stealing their tyres along with wheels within 25-30 minutes. Before committing the crime, the accused identified the vehicle parked in unsafe place in sectors, colonies and villages and committed the crime in the night time, DSP Vats said.
The accused through an app on social media purchased an old car and after changing the old tyres with the new stolen ones they sold the cars at high rates, the DSP said.
Both the accused were today produced before the court, which sent them in two-day police remand for further investigation.
