Gang of robbers busted, 2 arrested
The Jalandhar Rural Police have dismantled a dangerous robbery gang by arresting two of its members who were involved in multiple robbery incidents across the district. The police have recovered stolen vehicles and weapons used in the crimes.
The arrested accused have been identified as Tajinder Singh, alias Malli, of Bika Colony and Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, of New Baldev Nagar in the city. SSP, Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said following a spate of robbery incidents in the jurisdiction, special teams had been constituted to catch the perpetrators. “Based on intelligence about the movement of suspects near the Dantar area, the teams executed a well-coordinated operation leading to these arrests,” Khakh stated.
The operation was conducted under the close supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Surinder Pal Dhogadi. The special team was led by Inspector Bikram Singh, SHO, Maqsudan.
Acting on reliable intelligence inputs, the police team strategically positioned themselves near Dantar and held the accused with the recovery of incriminating evidence, including one knife, one Activa scooter (PB-08-EV-3803), one motorcycle, and a mobile phone.
All cases were registered at police station, Maqusdan.
During initial interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in several robbery incidents, including the August 23 incident where they robbed Manoj Kumar of his Activa scooter, mobile phone and Rs 3,500 at knife-point near Bulandpur. The investigation revealed that the gang specifically targeted vulnerable individuals during late hours.
The accused would be produced in a local court and their remand will be sought for further investigation. The police anticipate more recoveries during the remand period.
