Sangrur constituency: Funds, growth aplenty, issues too
The constituency has received abundant funds and seen development since the formation of the Congress government. However, axing of trees and use of alleged substandard material in construction work haunt sitting MLA Vijay Inder Singla.
Past trend
Residents have largely sent SAD and Congress candidates to the Assembly. They have also given chance to outsiders such as Congress ex-MLA Arvind Khanna and incumbent Vijay Inder Singla. Farmers’ issues have largely influenced voters in the past.

Locals’ key demands
- End to axing of trees
- Quality material in projects
- Proper drainage system
- Streamlining traffic in city
Singla has brought about development, including construction of roads, building a multipurpose hall in the stadium, upgrade of schools, renovation of heritage sites and setting up rainwater harvesting projects in villages.
“However, poor quality material has been used in a majority of projects,” claims AAP youth leader Narinder Kaur Bharaj. Many city areas turn into pools after a brief spell of rain due to lack of proper drainage. Traffic jams have been frequent ever since the construction of a median on the Gaushala Road.
“I have brought about unprecedented development in the area without discrimination. Some residents had levelled allegations of use of poor quality material, but we got it checked by authorities. My political opponents are levelling baseless allegations as they have nothing else to say,” claims the MLA.
