Fuel station to be run by jail inmates inspected
Kurukshetra, April 16
Director General Prisons Mohommad Akil on Saturday said that a fuel and CNG station is being set up in a phased manner at district jail, Kurukshetra. After seeing the success of the pilot project, filling stations would be set up in 11 more jails of Haryana.
DG Prisons was here to inspect the progress of the filling station being set up. It is expected to start operations in a month. It will be open to the public.
Mohammad Akil said, “The fuel station has been named ‘Jail Filling Station’. In the day time, it will be operated by jail inmates. In the late hours, if needed, the jail employees will operate the fuel station. It is being set up by the Indian Oil Corporation. There are 20 jails in Haryana, and after seeing the success of the pilot project in Kurukshetra, filling stations will be opened in 11 more jails in two years. The process has been initiated and the jails have been identified.
“It is a new experiment. There can be some issues and problems in the initial days of operation but we are confident that the issues will be resolved in a month. We don’t want it to become a loss-making decision. Hence, decisions regarding keeping it open in the late hours and deputing of inmates at the filling station will depend on the sales,” he added. —
