From Mandi to a global tech leader
Ashish Vaidya, hailing from Mandi district, has made significant strides in technology as Principal Engineer at Alexa Audio, Amazon USA. With four US patents to his name, Vaidya’s contributions span artificial intelligence, cloud systems, and mobile technologies.
Graduating with distinction in Information Technology from NIT, Karnataka, (NITK) in 2008, Vaidya’s career took off at Novell Inc. before advancing through key roles at Citrix and Amazon. Since relocating to the US in 2014, he has worked on Amazon’s flagship products, including Prime Video, Social Media Ads, and Alexa. His innovations in Alexa Audio systems enable seamless handling of millions of user requests daily.
Vaidya’s patents—US 9224126B2, US 9088491B2, US 9513783B1, and US 10506075B1—drive advancements in collaborative decision-making, system configuration, user interface design, and fraud prevention. His recent filings highlight a growing focus on Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI, cementing his role as a pioneer in these domains.
Globally recognised, Vaidya’s work has earned citations from industry giants such as Microsoft, IBM, Netflix and HP. He was named a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of the British Computer Society in 2024. His book, Hello World: Student to Software Professional, serves as a guide for aspiring engineers.
Vaidya credits his small-town upbringing in Mandi for instilling resourcefulness and determination. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “Growing up with limited resources taught me to innovate and persevere—lessons that shaped my approach to technology.”
Beyond his technical achievements, Vaidya is a thought leader on programming and innovation. His family—mother Rajkumari, father Lokesh, and wife Shelja Chadda—has been a constant source of inspiration, along with mentors and peers who supported him throughout his career.
