From coins to Sri Yantra, city all decked up for Dhanteras

Dhanteras, the day symbolising protection against misfortune, falls on Tuesday. The markets were abuzz with activity and a lot of hustle bustle was witnessed all over the city on Monday. Long serpentine queues of vehicles were seen on the roads and jams were visible in main markets like Ghumar Mandi, Model Town, BBRS Nagar, Dandi Swami chowk etc.

The shops dealing in gold, silver and utensils were all decked up to welcome the buyers on Tuesday. Akriti Jain who deals in silverware said that coins would be a hot-selling product on Tuesday on Dhanteras. “Gold has reached an all time high, crossing the Rs 80,000 mark. So, it will not be easy to purchase gold for a majority of the people. They would turn towards silver and coins starting from 10 grams to 100, 200 grams and even more. The silver glasses and katoris will also be in demand and the rest will depend on the choice of the buyers,” said Jain.

A PR official at a corporate house informed that this year, “Sri Yantra” in silver was being given.

The shops dealing in utensils/crockery stores are all flooded with products of latest style to welcome the customers on Dhanteras on Tuesday.

Shalu, a homemaker, said that the social media was both good and bad. “Now, we are watching things to be bought on Dhanteras, including salt, broom etc. These are small things, if getting them home on this day brings good luck, then there is no harm in buying the stuff,” she said.

Meanwhile, queues of vehicles were witnessed in the markets and residents realised that they will encounter traffic snarls, jams all over the city it being the festive season.

It is believed that the day brings fortune and prosperity, Goddess Lakshmi is widely worshipped across the country on this day. Apart from paying obeisance to Goddess Lakshmi, devotees worship Lord Kuber, symbolising wealth and prosperity on Dhanteras.
