Hamirpur, August 16

The politically motivated freebies offered by the BJP government had ruined the financial health of the state. This was stated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu while addressing a gathering here today.

The Chief Minister said that the BJP favoured rich and prosperous people by waiving electricity bills, while his government had prioritised subsidies for poor and needy families. He also urged well-off citizens of the state to voluntarily give up government subsidies to contribute to the growth of state and mission of the government towards self-reliance and development.

The Chief Minister also urged the hoteliers to renounce their electricity and water subsidies as they could support the government in its endeavour towards economically healthy state. He added that the state government was working to improve water quality and would limit water bill subsidies to families earning less than Rs 50,000 annually.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated Bhumi Swamitwa Yojna here and distributed property ownership certificates to beneficiaries of 11 revenue units of the district including tehsils and subtehsils. The Chief Minister said that this initiative of the Revenue Department would provide rightful ownership to villagers having land in ‘Abadi Deh’ (Lal Dora) areas of the village. He said that in the first phase over 4,230 families across 190 villages in the district would receive their property cards.

The Chief Minister added that that the primary objective of the Swamitva Yojana was to provide ownership rights to landholders in Abadi-Deh areas for easing their access to official revenue records. He congratulated people of the district to be first district of the country to get this land ownership right.

The Chief Minister also mentioned the ongoing development projects in Hamirpur, including the construction of a nursing college, a new bus stand by spending Rs 65 crore and the beautification of the Hamirpur market with a sanctioned budget of Rs 20 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Onkar Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue), said that the implementation of the scheme involved drone-assisted mapping. He said that the Department of Survey of Indian had provided 16,588 first-level maps for 6,314 villages, including those in Hamirpur district. The Chief Minister said that 1,482 second-level maps for 774 villages have been received along with final-level maps for 355 villages in the district and villagers of these villages are being issued property cards.
