Four held for looting Rs 35L copper scrap

The District Police claimed to have busted a gang of thieves who used to loot iron, copper and other material from godowns with the arrest of four persons. They have recovered 35 quintal of copper scrap worth Rs 35 lakh from the accused.

Addressing the media, SSP Ravjot Grewal said on December 13, Praveen Agarwal, resident of Mandi Gobindgarh, lodged a police complaint about a robbery at his copper scrap godown located at Amloh Road, Mandi Gobindgarh.

He said on December 11 at about 1 am, some unidentified persons entered the godown by climbing the wall. They threatened the security guard and five labourers at gunpoint and locked them in the room. The robbers broke the lock, drove a Bolero pickup vehicle in the godown and took away about 35 quintal of copper scrap, along with DVR of CCTV cameras.

The SSP said a case under Sections 331(4), 127(2), 305(A), 351(3), 61(2) of the BNS was registered against Randhir Singh, the owner/driver of the vehicle, and six to seven persons.

She said a SIT led by Rakesh Yadav, SP (D), and Gurdeep Singh, DSP, with Inspector Arshdeep Singh raided several places. Accused Randhir Singh, a resident of Sahnewal, Anil Kumar, Karan Singh and Sunil, all residents of Dhandari Khurd, Ludhiana, were arrested and the vehicle used in the crime, along with the stolen copper scrap, was recovered from them.

The SSP said they committed the dacoity with a toy pistol that was recovered from Randhir Singh, besides a sword from Karan Singh. The accused will be produced in court and police remand will be sought. The rest of the accused will also be arrested soon, the SSP added.

She said three cases against accused Anil Kumar, four against Sunil Kumar and one case against Karan Singh had already been registered in different police stations under different sections.
