Four arrested with heroin, opium

Acting on a tip-off, the Khilchian police have arrested two persons with 3 kg of opium and impounded a Verna car from them. Those arrested were identified as Charanjit Singh, a resident of Kaleke village, and Varinder Singh, a resident of Padde village in Beas.
The Khilchian police got information that the suspects used to run a drug racket and were coming towards Kaleke village with a consignment of drugs. Following a tip-off, a checkpoint was laid at Fattuwal village. The police stopped a Verna car at the checkpoint. During search, the police seized 2.6 kg of opium from the car. The police also recovered 400 gm of opium from Varinder Singh.
A case under provisions of the NDPS Act was registered against them. Investigation was launched after bringing the suspects on police remand.
In another incident, the rural police arrested two drug peddlers with 150 gm of heroin and impounded a Bolero pickup truck from them. The suspects were identified as Avtar Singh, a resident of Nangal Guru village in Jandiala Guru, and Mohammad Hussain, a resident of Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir.
The police said the suspects were intercepted at a naka near Butari village T-point. During search, the police recovered 70 gm and 80 gm of heroin from Avtar and Hussain, respectively. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the suspects. Further probe was on to ascertain the source of the contraband.
