Former Pro-VC of CUHP elected agri-conference head

The Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Mumbai, at its 84th annual conference held at Karaikal, Puducherry, has elected Prof Hans Raj Sharma (Retd) as a conference president for the 85th annual conference to be held in November 2025 at Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar.

The Indian Society of Agricultural Economics is one of the premier and oldest professional societies in the country serving for the cause of the farming community.

Many eminent economists of the country, including Dr KN Raj, Prof ML Dantwala, Prof VM Dandekar, Prof VKRV Rao, Dr SS Johl, Dr GS Bhalla, Dr GK Chadha and Dr YK Alagh, have remained conference presidents of the society in the past. It is for the first time that someone from the state of Himachal Pradesh has been elected as a conference president of the prestigious professional society.

Prof HR Sharma has published four books, 83 research articles in journals of national and international repute; presented more than 20 research papers in national and international conferences and has completed eight research projects as principal investigator and 14 as co-principal investigator. He was the team leader of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) project for HP under which district agricultural plans (DAPs) were prepared for the state and its eleven districts. His research work on tenancy and land distribution has been widely cited in national and international journals.
