Chandigarh, August 31

In a significant development, former MLA Parkash Singh Bhatti rejoined the Congress at a function held at the Punjab Congress office in Chandigarh today. Bhatti had left the party in 2017 after being denied a ticket in the assembly elections and joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa welcomed Bhatti back to the party fold. Bhatti had previously won the MLA seat from Balluana in 2002 as a Congress candidate.

During the event, Warring lashed out at actress-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut and her upcoming movie “Emergency”, calling for a case to be registered against her by the Punjab government. He accused Ranaut of spreading hate and making derogatory remarks about Punjab’s mothers who participated in the farmers’ protests. Warring alleged that the movie is a script created by the BJP government, and Ranaut is their tool to spread hate. He criticised the Punjab government for staying silent on the issue while BJP supports Ranaut’s hate-mongering.
