Former MLA and Congress candidate from Assandh Shamsher Singh Gogi has sparked a controversy with his statement during his public meeting, where he said, “the well-being of his family and close ones will be a priority if his party forms the government.”

A video has gone viral on the social media wherein Gogi can be seen saying, “When our government is formed, Assandh will have its share in the government, we will take care of our relatives and brotherhood. We will first take care of our own household, so it is necessary to win the election to form the government.” This video has been shared by CM Nayab Singh Saini on his social media platform ‘X’, accusing the Congress leaders of taking care of their own households.

Gogi’s statement has fuelled a political storm, with many interpreting his comments as an admission of intending to use political power for personal gains. However, Gogi has dismissed these interpretations, emphasising his commitment to the development of Assandh and accusing his opponents of twisting his words for political advantage.

Despite the backlash, Gogi stood by his statement and clarified by saying, “I still stand by my words. My complete statement was not taken, only two to three lines were made viral. If you listen carefully, I said when Assandh becomes a district and our government is formed, we will make Assandh an industrial hub. Naturally, the well-being of our friends, relatives, and family will improve.”

He took a dig at CM Nayab Singh Saini and said, “Nayab Singh Saini should take care of his own house first before making comments. It is a futile exercise to explain things to someone who refuses to see the truth. Saini sees nothing but corruption everywhere. Let Saini and I be investigated, and the truth about who is clean will be clear for everyone.”
