Hisar: Former minister hits out at BJP govt over drug menace, crime
Hisar, July 7
Former minister and Congress leader Sampat Singh on Sunday said Haryana had become the epicentre of drug abuse and serious crimes, leaving Punjab behind in drug addiction and UP and Bihar in crime.
He said gangsters had created panic in the state, which had seen a sharp rise in the cases of extortion, kidnapping, loot, dacoity and crimes against women in the past few months. He said several instances of miscreants looting banks and breaking open ATMs had been reported in the past few months.
“Last week, gangsters fired at a car showroom in Hisar, demanding crores as ransom. This happened in broad daylight and in the busy Auto Market area here. Before leaving the scene, they left a ransom note. They threatened the owners to face consequences if they failed to pay the money. The situation is so grave that Haryana-based criminals are linked to several major crimes in the country. This is the direct result of rampant unemployment among the youth who were being drawn towards drugs and crime,” the former minister said.
“Till recently, Haryana has been known for its sportspersons, making contribution to defence forces and communal harmony, but now the situation has become alarming due to unemployment which forced youth to take up crime. The government should provide jobs to the unemployed youth,” he said.
