Former CIA officer sentenced to 4 years for graft
Ajay Kumar, a former CIA Dabwali incharge, was sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of Rs 15,000 was imposed on him by the Sessions Court today.
In 2021, Ajay Kumar had been caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.
He was arrested by the State Vigilance Bureau for accepting a bribe from Sukhbir Singh of Sirsa in exchange for preventing the arrest of his family members.
According to the prosecution, the case dates back to June 15, 2021, when Ajay Kumar visited the complainant's house in connection with his father's case, who was incarcerated under the NDPS Act. His father Baldev Singh had been granted parole during the Covid pandemic, but due to health issues, he failed to return to jail on time, resulting in a warrant for his arrest.
Kumar allegedly told Sukhbir that he would arrest the entire family under Section 216 unless they paid Rs 3 lakh. Initially, Sukhbir gave him Rs 1 lakh, but later, Kumar insisted on additional Rs 2 lakh.
Following his arrest, Kumar applied for bail multiple times, but his requests were denied.
