Industries, Parliamentary Affairs and Labour Employment Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan has directed officials to constitute joint committees to effectively check illegal mining in the border areas.

“About 1.10 lakh tonnes of illegal mined material has been used in the upcoming Baddi-Chandigarh railway line as no ‘M’ forms were made available by the contractor,” the minister told the media after meeting the officials at Baddi last evening.

He said a joint action committee comprising officials the Mining, Forest and Police departments would be constituted to effectively check illegal mining and no political interference would be tolerated. The Nalagarh SDM and police have also been directed to seize vehicles plying without registration numbers as they are being used in the illegal mining.
