Senior functionaries in the administration are persuading the people to curb pollution by following the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev on the occasion of his 555th birth anniversary.

While Deputy Commissioner Pallavi and Senior Superintendent of Police Gagan Ajit Singh today visited hotspots of stubble burning in rural areas, members of the Rotary International and Lions Club organised workshops and nukkad meeting to persuade residents to adopt teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.

The DC and SSP appreciated those farmers who followed the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal regarding disposal of paddy stubble.

“When we appealed to the farmers to realise the wisdom of one man in the 15th century who thought about environmental preservation, they agreed to follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev as an element of lifestyle and modern agriculture,” said Pallavi.

Environmentalist Gulbahar Singh Retole said the people had failed to comprehend teachings of Guru Nanak Dev, who advocated an integral approach between human life and nature.

Retole said members of 100 Rotary Clubs had started working to spread teachings of Guru Nanak Dev under supervision of district governor Dr Sandeep Chauhan.

The SSP said special teams of cops, each led by a circle officer, had been deployed to interact with a maximum number of stakeholders and sensitise them about causes and consequences of degradation of soil, water and air.
