Flouting norms, 2 pollution testing centres challaned in Rohtak
Two pollution testing centres were challaned by officials of Regional Transport Authorities (RTA) after being found not complying with the norms. Their machines were also seized.
The action came when Gayatri Ahlawat, Secretary (RTA), carried out a surprise inspection of the pollution checking centres in the district in view of the execution of the instructions issued under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to check further deterioration of air quality in the national capital region.
Gayatri said all pollution testing centres in the district would be inspected and stern action would be taken against those found not complying with the rules. Notably, such centres test a vehicle’s emission and issue a pollution under control (PUC) certificate if the vehicle passes.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata has instructed the officials concerned to ensure that all crushing and mining related works in the district remain completely closed during the stage-III of GRAP.
“Since the GRAP stage-III has come into effect, all types of activities related to construction and demolition, earth work for excavation and filling, including boring and drilling works, laying of sewer lines, water lines, drainage and electric cabling, etc. through open trench system, cutting of tiles, stones and other flooring materials, road construction activities, transfer of dust generating materials have been restricted,” said an official.
