‘First murder of 2024’: Teen brags on Instagram after killing doctor in Delhi, arrested
Police have apprehended one juvenile in connection with the murder of Unani practitioner Dr Javed Akhtar.
Seventeen-year-old was arrested on Thursday. He had come along with his teen friend - currently on the run - for first-aid treatment to Nima Hospital in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj area, and allegedly shot dead Dr Javed Akhtar, a practitioner of Unani Medicine.
The minor had allegedly told the doctor that he had charged more money for the treatment, so he killed him.
The police were able to arrest the accused after they obtained clues about one of the suspects from his Instagram account.
After the murder, he posted a story in which he was holding a pistol and claimed to have committed “the first murder of 2024”.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the second suspect involved in the crime, police added.
"The police obtained clues about one of the suspects from his Instagram account. After the murder, he posted a story in which he was holding a pistol and claimed to have committed the first murder of 2024," police said.
The doctor was shot dead inside a nursing home in southeast Delhi's Kalindi Kunj area in the early morning hours. The accused, who appeared to be juveniles, came for treatment and shot Javed Akhtar, a Unani practitioner (BUMS), around 1.45 am, they said. Akhtar was found in a chair oozing blood from the head.
An inquiry revealed the possible involvement of two boys, aged about 16, who had come to the three-bed Nima Hospital around 1 am for dressing, the officer said.
One of them had a bandaged toe and had been to the hospital also the day before, it was revealed, the officer said.
After dressing, the two boys went inside Akhtar's cabin. Sometime later, night nursing staff Gajala Parveen and Mohammad Kamil heard a gunshot. Parveen rushed towards the cabin and found Akhtar sitting still in a pool of blood. With inputs from agencies
