Firms from Punjab investing in London, says Mayor’s rep
Young entrepreneurs from smaller towns and cities are living their “London dreams”, thanks to a new programme launched by the office of Mayor of London for seeking foreign direct investment (FDI) from India.
Entrepreneurs from smaller cities like Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Gurugram, Jaipur and Dehradun have started investing in London lured by access to venture capital and access to the best talent, said Hemin Bharucha, Regional Director- India and Middle East of London and Partners- which is supported by the office of the Mayor of London to promote the city as an investment destination.
He said that India is amongst the largest investors in businesses in London, especially in the post-Brexit era.
“In just first two quarters of this fiscal, 32 Indian companies have invested in London. Companies from here are investing in London in emerging sectors such as climate tech, fintech and e-commerce, which creates business opportunities for both regions,” he said.
Bharucha said that companies from Punjab that are investing in London deal with creative industry, life sciences, branding, marketing and advertising. “We handhold these investors by acting as a bridge with companies that will help them establish their businesses there. Being in London offers them access to global funds for their ventures,” he said.
