Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu and MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi laid wreaths to pay their respects to the martyrs of the Fire Department and observed a two-minute silence in memory of the martyrs at the commencement of this Fire Safety Week here on Thursday. The Mayor, while remembering the sacrifices of the fire brigade personnel, who were martyred in the Ludhiana fire incident, paid tributes to them and appreciated the service rendered by the fire brigade officers and personnel present on the occasion.

Mayor Karamjit Singh congratulated the people of the city on the occasion of Baisakhi, the founding day of the Khalsa Panth and the birth anniversary of Baba Sahib Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the father of the Constitution of India. Mayor Karamjit Singh said since he took over the responsibility of Mayor of Amritsar, there has been a radical change in the Fire Brigade Department. However, paying close attention to the needs of the fire brigade department, he gave approval to provide all the necessary equipment, modern vehicles and whatever was required with the fire brigade, with which today the fire brigade of the Municipal Corporation, Amritsar is number one among the most modern fire stations in North India. He assured that whatever other firefighting machinery is required by the department would be provided for which there is no shortage of funds.

The Mayor, while praising ADFO Lovepreet Singh and his team, said he has full respect for his Fire Department as it has been performing so well during his tenure that he hadn’t received any complaint till date.

He instructed the fire officials that all commercial, industrial and educational institutions should be checked whether they have installed fire-safety equipment or not. Raise awareness among residents and give them two months to install the safety systems as per rules, he said.
