A massive fire broke out in the PVC market that was built illegally in fields at Balor village near Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district. Around 40 godowns are located in the market and many of them caught fire.

“Fire broke out at the market all of a sudden in the morning. It spread rapidly with the wind. Migrant labourers from Bihar saved their lives by running away from their slums set up in the market. Smoke covered the entire area. Firefighters had to work hard to extinguish the fire,” said a labourer.

Notably, after the ban in neighbouring Delhi, plastic traders turned to Bahadurgarh in 2019. The business spread in many villages of Bahadurgarh area within some months. In the meantime, a PVC market also flourished in an illegal manner in the fields of Balor village. Plastic, polythene, rubber, cloth and other junk items are collected here.

Sources claimed that illegal PVC markets had caught fire many times in the past. Though the authorities make claims of removing these markets, these claims are proving to be baseless.
