The Congress on Friday described the FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi as a "badge of honour" earned by Rahul Gandhi for defending B R Ambedkar.

"The FIR against Sh. @RahulGandhi ji is nothing but a diversionary tactic in response to his staunch protest against the Home Minister", Congress general secretary K C Venugopal said in statement posted by him on X.

"A case against him for defending Babasaheb’s legacy is a badge of honour", Venugopal added. Venugopal said Rahul Gandhi was already facing 26 FIRs "due to the BJP’s political vendetta". A fresh  FIR will not stop him or the Congress from standing up against the "casteist RSS-BJP regime", Venugopal said.

Congress leader asked why has the Delhi Police not acted on the FIRs filed by women MPs of Congress against BJP leaders accusing them of physically assaulting them.

Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, said Delhi Police would do whatever the Home Minister would tell them.

"Whatever happened in front of the Makar Dwar (of Parliament) was completely planned.

"The Home Minister insulted BR Ambedkar and we all demanded an apology...They planned all this to distract the issue...He (the Home Minister) should have apologised...This FIR was not against Rahul Gandhi, this is against BR Ambedkar."
