Ferozepur railway division earns Rs 1.7crore in fines
The Ferozepur railway division realised Rs 1.70 crore, including Rs 26.60 lakh from the Amritsar railway station, as revenue through fine from ticketless passengers in September.
The ticket checking staff of Ferozepur division conducted an intensive drive in trains to provide comfortable travel and better services to rail passengers and to curb passengers travelling without ticket. During checking by the division’s ticket checking staff, a total of 32,078 passengers were found travelling without ticket and in an irregular manner.
Railway officials run surprise campaigns from time to time to prevent unauthorised entry of passengers in trains. The checking is also conducted to keep the railway stations of Ferozepur division clean and prevent the passengers from littering. As a result, more than Rs 1,45,500 was recovered from 812 passengers for littering.
Senior Commercial Manager of Ferozepur railway division, Paramdeep Singh Saini said ticket checking campaigns would continue from time to time in the division and its main objective is to improve the sale of railway tickets and achieve zero ticketless travel.
