Ferozepur man held for drug smuggling
The Chheharta police have arrested a Ferozepur resident, identified as Harpreet Singh of Bhagoke village, on charges of drug peddling in Chheharta area. He was arrested from near Vrindavan Garden colony on the Fategarch Churian road.
The police confiscated 202 gm of heroin and ~7.20 lakh of alleged drug money from him. The police also impounded the car (PB-03-AP-3901) in which he was travelling. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against him. He was produced in a court and brought on police remand for further interrogation to ascertain his backward and forward links.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the Chheharta police got a specific information that Harpreet Singh was involved in supplying drugs in Chheharta area and that he was present near Vrindavan Garden area. Following this, a police team headed by Sub-inspector Joga Singh raided the spot and nabbed him. During search, the police recovered the heroin and the drug money from his possession.
Robin Hans, SHO, Chheharta police station, said Harpreet faced four cases of the NDPS Act and cheating against him in Ferozepur district. He was arrested for the first time. He was brought on police remand for further investigation. As per a preliminary probe, he was in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers.
Meanwhile, the police arrested Narinder Singh, alias Kala of Abadi Nanakpura in Guru Ki Wadali and seized 100gm heroin besides Rs 2690 of drug money from him. An FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 was registered against him.
