Yogi govt takes ‘ordinance’ route on anti-CAA hoardings

In a significant development, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has reportedly approved an ordinance punishing those who damaging public and private property during protests, though officials are tight-lipped about the development.

The Yogi government had taken the ordinance route after being severely indicted by both the High Court and the Supreme Court about putting up 100 hoardings across Lucknow of anti-CAA protesters. Both the courts had wanted to know under which law the state government had put up such hoardings.

The hoardings that came up on March 6 with names photos and addresses of the accused demanded them to pay Rs 64 lakh or have their property seized. The hoarding war, however, has not ended on the streets of Lucknow. A SPleader last night put up hoardings of rape convict and rape accused BJP leaders Kuldeep Sengar and former Union Minister Chinmayanand adjacent to anti-CAA hoardings.

SP leader IP Singh tweeted pictures of the hoardings he had put up at several places next to the district administration’s hoardings of the 52 anti-CAA protesters.

“Protestors clearly don’t have any privacy. Even after the orders of the High Court and Supreme Court, the Yogi government is not taking down the hoardings. So I have decided to put up some hoardings of named criminals so our daughters should be aware of them.”

However, as soon as the district administration became aware of the hoardings they were hurriedly pulled down and the police vigil of anti-CAA hoardings across the city was tightened.
