Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and Senior Superintendent of Police Varinder Singh Brar visited hotspot villages to refrain the farmers from burning paddy stubble.

At Karni Khera village, situated near India-Pakistan border, the DC said, “The Agriculture Department has provided machinery in villages to manage stubble without setting it on fire.” She said straw should not be burnt as it causes air pollution. “The protection of environment is a duty, which all of us need to perform,” said Sandhu.

The SSP said cops were also in touch with the farmers to create awareness among them on this major issue and urging them to use machinery to mix paddy straw back into the soil.
