Fatehgarh Sahib DC discusses stubble mgmt with industry representatives
Industrial units have a major role to play in the conservation of stubble, keeping in line with which industrial units in the district will pick up about 3 lakh metric tons of stubble, which will be used by these units in their plants as raw material. This is a major step in preventing stubble-burning. It will benefit farmers augment their income and help control the environmental pollution caused by the burning of stubble, said Sona Thind, Deputy Commissioner after holding a meeting with the representatives of various industrial units for the conservation of straw here today.
The DC said there were mainly six industrial units in Fatehgarh Sahib district, which used straw and these units had set a target to collect more straw this year compared to the last. This would help farmers manage stubble and achieve the goal of zero burning in the district, she said.
The industrialists brought to the notice of the DC the problems related to the lack of space to store the stubble collected by the representatives of the industrial units, among other issues. She assured them of resolving their problems and issued directions to the departments concerned. She urged all residents to contribute to conserving the environment. She said the government had set a target of zero stubble-burning, which would be achieved in any case.
