Farmers to block rail traffic for 2 hours today
Train services are likely to get disrupted tomorrow as the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) have announced countrywide two-hour rail roko stir to mark the third anniversary of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. In 2021, eight persons, including four farmers, were killed during a protest against the now-repealed three farm laws.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said the protest would start around 12.30 pm. Rail blockade would be organised at 35 places in 15 districts, he said. Besides seeking justice for the victims of Lakhimpur Kheri, the farmers also want to pressure the government to give legal guarantee on MSP.
The protest will be held in Batala, Gurdaspur, Patti, Tarn Taran, Tanda, Kila Raipur, Sahnewal, Phillaur, Lohia, Talwandi Bhai, Mallawala, Makhu, Guru Har Sahai, Moga, Patiala, Malout etc.
