Panchkula, February 22

Farmers associated with the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni today blocked the Panchkula-Yamunanagar road at Jaloli toll, near Barwala, for two hours over the death of a 22-year-old protesting farmer. The youth was a resident of Bathinda, and he died allegedly due to a gunshot wound during the farmers’ protest at the Khanauri border on Wednesday.

The farmers said they have been holding peaceful protests seeking the minimum support price (MSP) for all their crops and action against perpetrators of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, among others. A farmer said, “We have been peacefully protesting, but the police have blocked roads near Shambhu and Khanauri to stop us from reaching Delhi.”

President of the district unit of the BKU Charuni, Narinder Singh, said, “The union had called for a two-hour protest on highways after the youth’s death at the Khanauri border. It is unfortunate that the young man lost his life while he was participating in a peaceful protest,” he said.
