Farmers, millers, agents block NH at Doraha
Farmers, rice millers and commission agents blocked the national highway passing through the town for three hours between 12 noon to 3 pm. They were protesting against the ‘callous’ attitude of the Centre as well as the state government towards their genuine demands.
District president of All India Kisan Sabha Jasvir Jhajj shared, “Crop procurement and lifting of paddy seems to be no agenda of the government at all. Mandis are flooded with produce as 98 per cent of it is still awaiting to be lifted. We have no option but to bring our produce. The agony begins as we enter the mandi with our hard-earned produce. We fail to understand why the government sleeps over such issues which if not resolved can reach a catastrophic stage. The farmers’ homes, fields, mandis are brimming with the produce. There is no space left. The arhtiyas are in no mood to purchase due to the gap between the prices. The millers have their own woes to narrate.”
“The governments shall have to relent and purchase and lift every single grain. Otherwise, the 1920-21 agitation shall be repeated in its original form,” the protesters rued.
