As part of an educational tour, a 20-member delegation of farmers, accompanied by seven officials, from Tamil Nadu visited the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to bolster people-to-people contact and have a bird’s eye view of Punjab’s agriculture.

Dr Rupinder Kaur Toor, Associate Director (Skill Development), talked about the pivotal role played by the PAU in the agricultural development of the state as well as India through heralding of Green Revolution, introduction of high-yielding crop varieties alongwith their matching production and protection technologies, promotion of subsidiary enterprises (beekeeping, mushroom cultivation, women-centric household activities, livestock farming, etc) and enhancement of skills for the production of skilled workforce for agriculture and allied sectors.

Mycologist Dr Shivani Sharma and Entomologist Dr Amit Chaudhary, while coordinating visits to mushroom and apiary farms, talked about the expansion of mushroom growing and apiculture in the state, creating a sustainable future for the agripreneurs and small farmers as well as the women and youth via fiscal progress.
