In protest against tardy paddy procurement, activists of the BKU (Ugrahan) allowed commuters free passage through two toll plazas at Kalajhar village, near Bhawanigarh, and Chotian village in Sangrur district on Thursday.

Thousands of commuters crossed the two toll plazas without paying any charges. Farmers raised slogans against the government. They also started pucca morchas there. Their key demands included smooth paddy purchase on MSP and relaxation in moisture content norms for paddy.
