Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amit Kumar on Sunday chaired a meeting of officials to curb stubble burning in the district.

Addressing officials, the SDM said 15 complaints about stubble burning were received from the Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC), of which 13 were found wrong. Apart from this, a case was registered against a farmer of Bayanpur village for burning crop residue while Rs 5,000 fine was imposed on a farmer of Sandal Kalan village for flouting the ban, the SDM said.

The SDM directed duty magistrates, tehsildar, naib tehsildars, block development and panchayat officers (BDPOs), village secretaries and patwaris to impose a complete ban on stubble burning in the district. He directed officials to initiate strict action against those who were found burning paddy residue in their fields. He told officials to keep strict vigil in fields.

Following the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) directions, the district administration initiated various steps to stop stubble and garbage burning in the district, the SDM said.

While giving directions to officials, the SDM said after getting information of any stubble burning from HARSAC, official should reach the location immediately and send an action taken report to his office.

SDM told BDPOs to make announcements in all villages of their respective areas to inform that action would be initiated against the sarpanch and the numbardar concerned of that particular village in which any farmer was caught burning crop residue.
