Farm university scholar bags Taiwan internship

Tamanna Sood, a PhD research scholar in the Department of Vegetable Science and Floriculture at the College of Agriculture, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur, has been selected for a three-month paid internship in Taiwan under the “Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP)”.

The programme, which draws applicants from around the world, will be held from October to December 2024.

Tamanna is the only Indian student selected for the internship. Vice-Chancellor Naveen Kumar encouraged Tamanna to take full advantage of this opportunity. She has been working under the guidance of Dr Sonia Sood, her major adviser, and Dr DR Chaudhary, Head of the Department of Vegetable Science and Floriculture. Tamanna’s internship is fully funded by the Taiwan Ministry of Education, providing her with a monthly stipend of NTD 20,000. She will work under the supervision of Dr Chi-Hsien Liu, a professor at Chang Gung University, Taoyuan, Taiwan. Her research will focus on genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in okra, and the application of biosensors for detecting genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in crops.
