A case has been registered against owners of a farm for burning paddy stubble at the Beri police station on a complaint lodged by the local office of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in this connection.

Jitendra Singh Ahlawat, Deputy Director, Agriculture, said they got information about burning of crop residue after harvesting paddy in a field of Beri Khas village yesterday. Acting swiftly, a team of department officials rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

“The team contacted farmers concerned and investigated the matter. While taking action, the team filed a complaint with the Beri police station which registered a case against farmers who burnt stubble in their fields at Beri Khas village,” he said.

The Deputy Director appealed to farmers to mix stubble left after harvesting paddy in their fields as per methods suggested by the Agriculture Department. On doing so, farmers would be given incentives at the rate of Rs 1,000 per acre by the government, he said.

“Despite this, if any farmer is caught burning crop residue in his field, action will be taken against him as per the law. The government and the administration are very strict and serious towards burning stubble. Our teams are constantly monitoring fields and making farmers aware of not burning the crop residue,” said Ahlawat.
