Farm fire: Don’t lower guard during festivals, officials told
Celebrate festivals with your families but keep tabs on villages entrusted to you for checking stubble burning. This is the advice seniors have given to the rank and file in the civil and police administration in Malerkotla and Ludhiana subdivisions.
All SDMs, tehsildars and naib tehsildars in the district have been asked to monitor activities relating to the management of crop residue and ensure that cluster incharges and nodal officers are in direct contact of sarpanches, panches and lambardars of villages under their jurisdiction.
Ahmedgarh and Malerkotla SDM Harbans Singh said designated government personnel had been advised to implement orders received from Malerkotla Deputy Commissioner Pallavi regarding zero tolerance on stubble burning.
“On the orders of the DC, Tehsildar Parveen Sharma has been asked to remain in touch with all nodal officers and cluster incharges of the district and coordinate with Fire Brigade staff at Shreyans Paper Mill Limited and the Municipal Council, Malerkotla, for prompt requisition of firefighting equipment in case of any need during festival days,” said Harbans Singh.
Meanwhile, the DC said the owners and tillers of at least three fields had been challaned for violating guidelines of the National Green Tribunal and the state government. “Having confirmed the sequence of events leading to stubble burning at some fields, we have got legal action initiated against the owners and tillers,” said Pallavi, while maintaining that red entries would also be made in the records of the Revenue Department.
She said all block development and panchayat officers, panchayat secretaries, sarpanches, panches and nambardars had also been advised to ensure that strict action was taken against violators.
